The Mahtomedi School Board is discussing adjusting school start times to improve student health and academic outcomes. The board would like to share with families the evidence that has led to this discussion and receive feedback from the community.
There are two listening sessions scheduled:
Session One - Held Monday, October 23, at 7 PM at Chautauqua Fine Arts Center. Julie Dahl, local resident, district parent, and MN Sleep Society board member, shared the latest findings on the benefits of later school start times for adolescent children. The presentation included: basic biology of sleep; evidence of the effects of later start times; and review common concerns. School board members were available following the presentation for questions and comments.
The MN Sleep Society Teen Sleep Loss Toolkit FAQ can be found HERE and Evidence Highlights HERE.
Session Two - Thursday, November 9, from 5:30 - 6:30 PM at the District Education Center, prior to the 7 PM board meeting.
Your input on the well-being of our students is valued.
