School Emergency Weather-Related Closings

Decisions to close school are taken very seriously. We value our instructional time, yet are concerned about the safety of our students and staff. Canceling classes and closing school does not necessarily create a safer situation for students and families. Therefore, we only cancel or close when absolutely necessary.

When unsafe weather or road conditions make it necessary for us to cancel or delay the start of school, we will contact families by telephone and email using the School Messenger Notification System. Contact information for the School Messenger Notification System is automatically updated from our student database. Parents are asked to call their child's school office with any changes in their contact information.

In addition, an announcement will be made over the following television stations KARE channel 11, KSTP channel 5, WCCO channel 4, and WCCO radio 830. The school closing will also be announced on the school voice mail system and website.

The decision to cancel or delay school is usually made prior to 6:00 a.m. and earlier if the necessary information is available. If it is not possible to make a definite decision because weather and road conditions are expected to get worse, an announcement may be made that the start of school will be delayed two hours. If a decision is made to dismiss school before the regular times, an announcement will be broadcast as noted above.

Ultimately the final decision whether a student goes to school rests with the family. If you choose to keep your student home, please call the school's attendance line and the absence will be excused.
